Howie Chavers
I am Howie Chavers. I have degrees in Business Administration and Computer Science. I have been a racehorse trainer for 37 years. My love for horses is the passion that drives me to accomplish any task.
Larry Terrell
Larry Terrell is a lifelong Western Colorado native who lives in Loma, Colorado, just west of Grand Junction. He is a retired CPA from the largest accounting firm in Western Colorado, where he specialized in taxation for natural resources as well as farm and ranch operations.
Larry earned his first Colorado Quarter Horse racing license in 1979, racing primarily on the Colorado fair circuit during his early years. Over time, his racing career expanded across Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Iowa, Oklahoma, and New Mexico, where he achieved his greatest success.
He has also served as Vice President of the race division for the Western Slope Quarterhorse Association, where the association sponsored and managed a 12-day fair circuit race meet, further supporting and growing the sport in the region.
Judy Bergner-Worrell
I started my horse career early, four years old on the pony Goldie. I grew up in Lancaster, California, showing the ponies, and an old Appaloosa horse at open shows, 4H and FFA. Was a big time to go to the Antelope Valley Fair and Alfalfa Festival, and the LA County Fair. A lifelong love of the horses.
I bred and raised a number of Appaloosa horses, all sired by the greatest AQHA horses, Zippo Pine Bar, Zips Chocolate Chip, Principal Investment; and I love those lines today. I was very active in Appaloosa regional clubs and the National Appaloosa Horse Club and was on the National Board for six years. I was a member of RMQHA in the 90s and showed an Amateur Western pleasure horse by Impressive Zip.
After taking a career break from horses and retiring from the breeding business I started showing AQHA L1 and Rookie and have truly loved rejoining RMQHA. The evolution of the L1 and Rookie program is a tremendous door to AQHA for someone both new, and returning, as a more “mature” person.
I Graduated from Regis University in Denver, with a Systems Degree, and an MBA from the University of Texas at San Antonio. I spent my entire career life on the technology teams for Walmart, USAA and American Express. Recently retired, I am looking forward to contributing to my AQHA passion.
Jan Guynn
Jan Guynn is a certified paralegal, and has worked for Cameron W. Tyler and Associates, P.C. in Boulder, Colorado since 1998. She and her husband Mark moved to Sheridan, Wyoming in the summer of 2021 and run Guynn Training Center, LLC along with their daughter, Lindsay.
Jan has long been heavily involved in the horse industry, and remains on the board of the Rocky Mountain Quarter Horse Association, focusing primarily on their youth programs. She has also served on the Rocky Mountain Reining Horse Association board, presently sits on the board of the Sheridan WYO Rodeo, and serves on committees for The Brinton Museum. Jan has twice been named AQHA Youth Advisor of the Year, and is now assisting the Wyoming Quarter Horse Association and Cowboy States Reining Horse Association with their youth activities. She has long been committed, on a consultation basis, to young ladies interested in being recruited collegiately for D1 equestrian programs. Ms. Guynn enjoys live music, riding, golf, and any time she can carve out with her kids, family and friends.
Miya Childers
Miya Childers has lived in Colorado since December 2004, when she came to work for a local trainer.
Before living here, Miya lived in Scottsdale, AZ. While in AZ Miya worked for an all-around trainer, Steve Cruse, who was internationally acknowledged as a top halter exhibitor and trainer. Miya trained numerous World and National champion Appaloosas during her time with Steve, including showing her own Appaloosa gelding to Top Ten and Five spots in the open divisions of the western pleasure and trail. When Steve moved his business to Texas Miya moved to the Denver area and went to work for an AQHA training program. As an assistant Miya rode multiple horses to top AQHA awards, including Superior Champions Good Vintage, Talkin Some Zip, Always Clownin Around, Chex is the Choice, and Western By Design. She qualified many students and horses for the AQHA World Show in several different events, including western pleasure, trail, hunter under saddle and halter.
Miya started her own business in September 2009 and earned AQHA Professional Horseman membership. Since the beginning the goal of her business (Dawning Performance Horses) has been to compete and win on a national level while being a steward of the horse. Miya has been attending the All-American Quarter Horse Congress (the world’s largest single breed horse show) since 2010. She has been blessed to have had a horse in the Top Ten placings every year she has attended, including multiple Congress Champions and Reserve Congress Champions. Miya also has won Top Five and Ten placings at the AQHA World Championship show in both the Trail and Halter divisions.
Miya also runs a limited rehabilitation program, with horses referred from Colorado State University and Jergens Equine, Gill, CO. Miya is also a regular clinician for both private groups and colleges with equine programs, including NWJC. She regularly attends judging clinics, and is pursuing her judge’s card for both AQHA, NSBA and ApHC.
